Help Purchase Holiday Toys for South Tucson Kids

Bruce Tucker

Since 2014, GABA has worked with the South Tucson Fire Department to collect toys for children who might not have such a Happy Holiday without a bit of help.

In past years, we’ve brought GABA riders and non-GABA riders together with group rides from locations all around Tucson down to the fire station. Our riders carried presents strapped to their bikes and handed those presents over to Captain Andy. More gifts were gathered at the GABA Holiday party and taken down to the station by car or truck.

Until the pandemic, we expected to do the same thing this year but, well, it’s been quite a year…

With Covid-19 as our constant (and very scary) companion, we won’t be able to have our traditional Holiday Party to collect toys. Instead, our plan is to buy toys and give them to Fire Station Captain Andy Luna. Then, as they’ve done before, Captain Andy and his fire station team will distribute the toys to families in the South Tucson community.

You can help by donating through our GoFundMe page.

How much money will our cycling community donate? Since this is the first time, we’ve asked you to contribute we don’t know – but we’ve set a goal of $5,000.

Your GABA board is giving us a great start toward this goal by approving a direct donation of $1,000 and another $1,000 in matching funds.

GABA is, and always has been, more than just a bunch of people on bicycles. It’s part of the larger Tucson community. And it’s a community that needs our help so very much this year.

Thanks for your help.

Ride safely and be well.
