  GABA's March Meeting
A Cycle Tour Through Southern Spain
Join Mark and Sandy Doumas at the March 2nd GABA meeting for an evening of photos and storytelling about how they made a loop tour through the southern portion of Spain known as Andalusia.

The cornerstone cities of Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba formed the main path of their tour. In between these cities, the landscape is dotted with whitewashed towns with cobblestone streets on hilltops high above the surrounding plains.

The tour included visits to many Roman, Moorish and other ancient buildings. Modern day Flamenco dancing and Andalusian horse shows kept the tour interesting. Along the way, Mark and Sandy were treated to beautiful vistas, fine food, some "interesting" cycling weather and, of course, wonderful hospitality.

GABA general meetings are open to the public.

2020 GRAN FONDO - MARCH 7, 2020
Ten55 Brewing Co., in conjunction with the Greater Arizona Bicycling Association, Inc.
(GABA), will be hosting the second annual Tucson Gran Fondo on March 7, 2020.

Similar to the first Gran Fondo, or “Big Ride”, originating in Italy back in 1970 and now hosted worldwide, the Tucson Gran Fondo will be held with the intent of bringing cyclists of all skill levels and the local community together to celebrate the sport of cycling and to showcase the re-birth of downtown Tucson.

Riders in this year’s non-timed/non-competitive event will enjoy the beautiful scenery of Tucson rolling along one of four routes, the 76 mile “Longo", the new 62 mile “Medio/Metric Century”, the 31 mile “Corto” or the new 11 mile “Piccolo/ Fun Ride”.  We have made route improvements from last year’s event in order to provide an even more enjoyable experience as riders will be avoiding many busy intersections and spending more time on Tucson’s famous “Loop”!

All riders will start and finish on Scott between Congress and Broadway.  The Longo ride will start at 8:00 am, the Metric Century at 8:30 am, the Corto at 9:00 am and the Fun Ride at 9:30 am.  Riders may pick up their Gran Fondo packet (t-shirt, wristband, bib number, ride maps, cue sheets, etc…) on the mezzanine of Ten55 Brewing Company on Friday March 6 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm or at the ride site starting at 7:30 am the day of the ride.  Additionally, all riders will need to conclude their rides by 3:00 pm.

Afterward friends, family and the general public are invited to join the riders at the Start/Finish line after-party on Scott, between Congress and Broadway, which will run from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm.  This year’s afterparty will feature live music from Fifty Shades of Grey Hair and Hey Bucko, games, and a wider variety of delicious food and craft beers provided by Ten55 Brewing Co. There will be event stands to park your bike so riders feel free to bring a change of clothes and change inside Ten55’s restrooms!  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association and our new charity for 2020, Wheels for Kids.  In fact, during our after-party, we will be calling upon some of the Gran Fondo riders to participate in a competition to help us assemble some shiny new bicycles for the kids!

To register for this event online please go to either and select the “Gran Fondo” tab, Or the GABA website, and select Tucson Gran Fondo from the “GABA Supported Rides” tab, or simply use the link below from November 1, 2019 through March 6, 2020.  Online registration fees per rider (not per bike which means that tandem riders must register separately) will be $95 for GABA members and $115 for non-members. GABA members please note that you will need to log into the GABA website, select Tucson Gran Fondo from the "GABA Supported Rides tab, in order to obtain the promo code for this event prior to registering, and then go to the Tucson Gran Fondo ride page to complete your registration.  Also, any rider with a promo code will need to make sure to click the “Enter promo code” link when registering in order for the discount to apply.  Note that day of event registration will be available at the ride site and rider fees will be $135 for all riders with no discounts available.

Similar to last year, all ride fees will include a Gran Fondo T-shirt, 3 tokens for Ten55 food and beverages (mostly our great beer!), and 1 raffle ticket for Ten55 merchandise.  As an added bonus for 2020, non-GABA members who register for the Gran Fondo will automatically receive an annual GABA membership.
